Alice Beard
1867-1949

A student of Brandywine School illustrator Howard Pyle, Alice Beard was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and spent most of her life in New York City. The strong color and illustrative qualities of her work reflect Pyle’s influence and she may have also studied in Europe as she did exhibit with the Salon de la Societes des Artistes Francais in Paris in 1914. Beard also exhibited at the Nation Academy of Design in 1915, the Society of Independent Artists in 1917, the National Arts Club in 1925, and the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors in 1926 and 1928.
