Georg Tappert
1880-1957

Along with Max Pechstein, Georg Tappert was one of the founding members of the Neue Secession (New Secession) in Berlin.  The New Secession was formed after the works of many expressionist painters of his generation were rejected from the Secession exhibition of 1910.  The New Secession was fundamental for the spread of Expressionism in Germany and it was composed of artists not only from Berlin, but members of the Die Brücke (The Bridge) group in Dresden and artists from Munich (who would shortly form Der Blaue Reiter – The Blue Rider) such as Wassily Kandinsky, Ernst Kirchner, Franz Marc, and Emile Nolde.
