The dancer holds a sacred standard or banner. These ritual objects are made from materials such as brightly colored feathers, textiles, animal skins, carved and painted gourds, and streamers. Standard bearers lead the dancers into the plaza where the ceremonies are held and slowly wave the banner over the dancers’ heads.
